Programming the Chemtrol 250
The Chemtrol 250 is a digital chemical feeder that automatically feeds chlorine into the pool. The Chemtrol measures ORP and PH with the use of electronic probes.
The Chemtrol 250 has a default timer of 15 minutes. Within 15 minutes, if the Chemtrol has not satisfied the appropriate ORP or PH level, it will throw an alarm. An alarm flashing on the Chemtrol can mean that you either underfed chemical or it will shut off if you've fed too much chemical.
The correct setting for ORP is 750
The correct setting for PH is 7.4
If the Chemtrol is having trouble satisfying either the ORP or PH setting listed above, then it will flash an alarm on the controller. When an alarm goes off, you will need to toggle either the ORP or PH setting to the off setting for at least 1 second and then press the button again until it's set to Auto.
You can set a desired timeframe in which you want to allow your Chemtrol to satisfy the ORP and PH settings. By default, the set time is set to 15 minutes. We've learned that this isn't nearly long enough to satisfy the ORP setting. It is recommended to start your set time on the Chemtrol at 400 minutes. Test your water regularly to see if you have enough chlorine in the pool. If your chlorine level is too low, then the ORP number can drop significantly lower than 750. If this happens, you may need to gradually increase your set time until you're able to keep the ORP at 750.
